AWNA has selected two MONTHS in 2025 from which members may select their General Excellence entries. Choose only ONE edition from May AND ONE from November; the one you consider the best issue for each of these months.

This annual competition honours general excellence in Alberta weekly newspaper publishing. This is the “all over” competition, looking at your newspaper as a whole. Three different circulation categories are based on your distribution, from “under 2000”, “2000-9999” to “10,000 and over”. In each of these groups, awards are then presented in :
General Excellence, Best Front Page, Best Editorial Page and Best Sports Page.
Independent publishers from outside of Alberta generally compose the judging committee
